Ready. Set. Goooo Kart Racing -- November 2011

by Miguel Garrido

The race was on! Miguel and 12 divers... I mean DRIVERS set the pace at Kingston Park Raceway in November for our second last social club event of the year. The sun was out, the karts were roaring, and the drivers were anxious to get out of the pits. Our karts for the day were the Schumacher Karts with top speeds of up to 80km/h and we raced the Official Le Mans Track.

Race 1: After our sighting lap and rolling start, pedals were pushed to the floor. Being
our first race though, (some) people were a little reluctant to throw the karts around corners (for now at least). Race 2: The initial nervousness was now gone. It was on for young and old. No more giving way to other drivers. No more “Driving Miss Daisy”. Race 3: Let the carnage begin! Drivers were now very comfortable with the performance of their karts and well aware of its limitations. There were karts spinning out, people ramming each other, karts ending up outside the track, and we even caught Em at one point driving backwards (on video!) I swear I could even see the turtle in the cloud from Nintendo’s Mario Kart with the “Wrong Way” sign floating above Em as she drove past.

After the fourth and final race we had an official presentation on the winners podium with
our first place trophy for the day going to Reece. In true racing style he shook up his bot
tle of winners champagne and sprayed it all over the second and third place winners for
the day Georgia and Trent. It was an amazing day on the track with lots of laughs and fun
shared by all. To see Val’s helmet cam video from the day be sure to check out our YouTube Channel: www.youtube.com/snorkelsafaribris
